Globally, Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Oral Health Education Program reaches out to over 50 million children and their families in 30 languages and 80 countries annually to communicate the importance of good oral health.
In Malaysia, the Colgate School Program was launched in 1965 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education with the objective of creating awareness of proper oral hygiene amongst young school children. Over the last 41 years, Dental Health Kits consisting of Colgate toothbrush and toothpaste have been distributed to more than 12 million primary school students to supplement educational efforts on oral health care by teachers and dental nurses from Ministry of Health. Children were educated on proper oral hygiene habits from a young age in the classroom. This was supplemented by free dental check ups and brushing drills conducted government dental nurses, helping achieve the goal of keeping their teeth healthy for life.
Today, the School Program has continued to evolve, incorporating in it the latest key educational elements of Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Oral Health Education Program. Children not only learn about good oral health habits in the classroom, but are also given take home materials to continue to sustain the good oral habits learnt. Additionally, they also have the opportunity to participate the Global ‘My Bright Smiles’ poster drawing contest. All these, help Malaysians achieve the vision of healthy teeth for life.
